BROCK LESNAR: Winning the fight ouside the cage.

Posted by: Site Administrator on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00:00 am

Dallas, TX, November 10, 2011 – It’s not often that a world-class and former MMA
heavyweight champion gets knocked down, but sometimes what happens outside of the
cage can be a tougher battle.

Last year Brock Lesnar was diagnosed with Diverticulitis, an infection in the intestinal
tract that causes extreme abdominal pain, often requiring surgery. Thus was the case
with Lesnar, who, only in May, underwent surgery to have a foot of his colon removed.
He is set to compete against Alistair Overeem on December 30th, in one of the most
highly-anticipated fights of the year, and is now battling back to rebuild for a fight, only
seven months after surgery. With the support of his personal nutritionist, former
Olympian Anita Richesson and a new, specifically-formulated Dymatize nutritional
supplement, Lesnar is now on his way back to a full recovery.

“It hasn’t been easy,” said Lesnar. “But I have a great group helping me. Anita and the
Dymatize team have been with me each step of the way. The Dymatize products have
enabled me to bounce back faster and feel stronger about getting back in the cage for the
December fight,” he said. The specific nutritional line was developed for Lesnar to facilitate in
his complex recovery efforts and fulfill a unique need otherwise not met by the current
products in the industry.

“We are committed to developing the highest quality and most advanced sports nutrition
products that meet the needs of elite athletes,” said Dr. Rob Wildman, Chief Science
Officer and nutrition expert at Dymatize. “We recognize the need for products that do
more than just assist with muscle recovery, but delve deeper into whole body recovery,
and we’re committed to supporting Brock’s nutritional needs.” he said.
For Lesnar’s comeback fight, what’s at stake is huge – and he’s ready for the challenge.
“I’m looking forward to the next couple of months of training,” he said. “I’m feeling
great and I’m ready to show everyone I’m stronger than ever.”

Brock Lesnar - excerpt from Muscle & Fitness Article

One of the architects behind Lesnar's recovery from near-fatal diverticulitis is Luke Richesson's wife, Anita Nall. An Olympic gold medalist swimmer turned nutritionist, it was her guidance that helped Lesnar put on the 46 pounds he lost in the hospital. Here are a few of her nutritional rules that have helped change Lesnar’s life:

COMBINING FOODS: At every meal, Lesnar always eats a protein, a vegetable, and (sometimes, but not always) a starchy carbsuch as a potato or yams. This improves digestion and aids recovery from training.

DITCH THE DAIRY: For a guy who used to drink three gallons of milk a week, it hurt Lesnar to give up his beloved beverage. But he didn’t miss the chronic stomachaches that plagued him for years.

MORE VEGETABLES: "Back in the day, I wouldn’t have come within 10 feet of a vegetable, but now I am a grazing machine," says Lesnar.

PROTEIN: Nall has taken Lesnar off dairy, away from gluten, made sugar verboten, and banned processed foods, but that doesn't mean she's rationing out the protein. "Anita recommends 1 to 1 1/2 grams of protein per pound of body weight each day for Brock depending on the workload," says Richesson. "It is not easy getting that in. If he is not meticulously prepared, he can miss a snack and be 50 grams down."

That is why Lesnar relies heavily on Dymatize Nutrition. Even with his newfound nutritional regimen, Dymatize protein powder combines well with his other foods and he finds it easy to digest.

SUPPLEMENTS: One of Lesnar's go-to supplements is Energized Xpand by Dymatize. It helps him recover quickly from his morning workout so he can be back in the gym a few hours later.

DISCIPLINE: The closer he gets to fight time, the stricter his diet gets. "There are times when Brock might indulge in ice cream or some bread, but once camp starts, he knows he cannot compromise his immune system," says Richesson.

The results of his effort speak for themself. "Grouping my foods differently and staying away from processed foods have allowed me to shave off 15 pounds of shit weight," says Lesnar, who now walks around at a lean 270 pounds.
